Discover West Norfolk

Cycling, Riding and Walking

Whether you cycle, horse ride or walk, Norfolk is a great county to do it all.  Check out our countryside and the great many footpaths available for some fantastic country walks.  Discover the National Trail and Peddars Way.

Cycle through linseed and poppy fields on our quiet country lanes and sample fresh seafoods and other local produce in our friendly local pubs and restaurants.  Don't miss the King William IV or the Lifeboat Inn. Why not stay there as well as dine.  You can be comfortable at Twitcher's Retreat Bed & Breakfast where you can store your bikes or hire them too.

Another great cycling location is Bircham Windmill where you can cycle safely and hire bikes too.  Sandringham is another lovely spot where families take young children to enjoy their bikes.

During high days and holidays, bikes are available to hire from HolkhamByCycle, and what better way to explore the area, than on two wheels. Holkham Estate has the perfect location for exploring, surrounded by acres of rolling parkland rich in wildlife, and the nearby north Norfolk coast with its stunning beach and National Nature Reserve. Follow the nature trail and try your hand at the quiz along the way.

Searle's Leisure Resort also does bike hire and is a great central place to set out form.  Take off through Hunstanton over the cliff tops and follow the coastal path along through Old Hunstanton, to Holme RSPB reserve, beautiful Brancaster and further.

Have a day riding at the Mt Pleasant Equestrian Centre in Heacham, Norfolk.  This BHS and RBHS approved riding school has a livery yard and two outdoor arenas.  The centre offers hacking, riding lessons, group lessons and lunge lessons all with experienced instructors who are on hand to help you learn and enjoy.

Notes:

Norfolk's Peddars Way is accessible to cyclists. However, the Norfolk Coast Path is closed to cyclists.  Two long-distance cycle routes pass through Hunstanton: National Cycle Route 30 (Norfolk Coast Cycleway) and National Cycle Route 1.  For a list of Norfolk cycle paths and information about free cycling maps, see Sustrans: Norfolk. For a map of where you cannot cycle click here. Norfolk has a host of cycle routes including the Norfolk Coast cycleway from King's Lynn to Cromer and the Peddar's Way (some 59 miles).  The many country lanes in and around Norfolk towns and villages each offer a fantastic respite from modern day living.
