Hunstanton & District Lions Club
District 105 EA
Chartered 5th December 1980
Registered Charity Number: 38976
Welcome to your Lions Club serving your area. The Club was founded in 1980, its members wishing to help those less fortunate within the Hunstanton Area. Our aims are:
- Community Service
- Fun and fellowship
The Club has continued to go from strength to strength and after 34 years the same aims hold true.
We are always looking for new members. No qualifications or skills are required just an enthusiasm and motivation to help those less fortunate in our community.
The club’s area includes Hunstanton, Ringstead, Old Hunstanton, Holme next the Sea, Thornham, Brancaster, Docking, Sedgeford, Heacham, Snettisham, Ingoldisthorpe, Dersingham and Sandringham. We currently have 20 members and have donated funds to over 30 worthy causes within the last year as well as organised two ‘flagship events’; a summer Fun Fair Day for Less Abled Children (for the 13th year running) and a Senior Citizen Christmas Turkey Tinsel Lunch (for the last 5 years) with over 600 people enjoying a festive feast.
We are often asked ‘Who are the Lions and what do they do’? You can find full details on the ‘Lions Club International’ website but in brief:
- Lions Club International (LCI) was formed in 1917 in the USA by Chicago businessman Melvin Jones who wondered what would happen if people applied their collective talents to improve their communities. Today, there are 1.3 million members world-wide with 17,000 in the British Isles and Ireland spread across 900 clubs.
- Lions Clubs help local communities in towns, villages and cities, in hospitals, schools and community centres, and in places struck by natural disasters. Each club supports a range of events and projects in its local community within four broad categories – health, sight, youth and international. Clubs raise funds for local good causes, organise local events and directly support both individuals and groups.
- As volunteers, we are enthusiastic about making a difference and achieving extraordinary things. As people, we are ordinary men and women. Who enjoy ourselves and gain satisfaction from playing a role at the heart of the community.
If this sounds like you and you would like to know more or event join us at one of our social events, then please contact our Secretary Chris Holt on 0845 8335738. We look forward to hearing from you.
