A Double Dose of Panto!

As most parents will find, it does get harder to inspire teenagers to want to attend a Christmas panto and recently I have been in that arena myself.  In the past few years I have let them off lightly but this year I made them attend TWO on the promise that this would be the last time.  Since my boys will be 16 and 14 next year it does seem right that they have more say. On Boxing Day we attended “Jack & the Beanstalk” at the Princess Theatre and on 29 Dec … Continue reading

Sleeping Beauty Graces Hunstanton

The film of Matthew Bourne’s live ballet “Sleeping Beauty” screened at Hunstanton’s Princess Theatre on 3 May 2016.  “SLEEPING BEAUTY” was created for the New Adventures 25th birthday celebrations and completed Bourne’s trio of re-imagined Tchaikovsky ballet masterworks beginning in 1992 with “Nutcracker!” followed in 1995, by the reknowned international hit “Swan Lake”. Matthew Bourne directed and choreographed the production working with several of his regular collaborators and New Adventures Associate Artists: Les Brotherston (set and costumes), Paule Constable (lighting) and Paul Groothuis (sound design).  It is not surprising Matthew … Continue reading

He’s Behind You! Oh No He’s Not! Oh Yes He Is!

Pantomime season is in the air as the Christmas season draws nearer and we in West Norfolk are blessed – yes truly blessed – when it comes to pantomime. In 2010 the pantomime was cancelled in Hunstanton never to be seen again BUT as time has gone on Hunstanton now has not one but TWO pantomimes in 2015.  There is also the pantomime in Kings Lynn at the Corn Exchange.  So in West Norfolk we have THREE PANTOMIMES to enjoy this festive season. The pantomime line up for 2015 includes: Aladdin at … Continue reading

Entertainment Norfolk!

Duet - John and Lucy Ray at Kings Lynn Corn Exchange - photo by Stella Gooch

A night out in West Norfolk theatre is a treat.  Yes I did mean West Norfolk theatre and not West End theatre! There is always a great line up in our local theatres but this past week there have been some particularly incredible shows to get out and see. Leo Sayer breezed in to Hunstanton on 15 September 2015 at the Princess Theatre and gave some of us a memorable trip down memory lane and a chance to catch up with Leo in 2015.  However, it was not long before another … Continue reading

Leo Sayer Visits Hunstanton

Leo Sayer dropped in to say hi to Richard the Butcher on Hunstanton High St 15 Sept 2015 - photo by Chris Lynn

Leo Sayer – a name from the late 1970s without a doubt – caused a stir when he relaxed at Costa Coffee and visited local shops of 15 September 2015.  He casually chatted with passersby and showed interest in the small independent shops he dropped in to giving many a photo opportunity to happy shopowners. (If you had a photo with Leo at your local business then please send me a copy to add to this article – I would hate to miss anyone and I know he visited a … Continue reading

Navi Creates Michael Jackson Fever in Hunstanton

The whole world knows in 2015 that Michael Jackson the pop legend was taken from us way too early.  If we did not know this fact we would have been forgiven for thinking that Navi, who performed at The Hunstanton Princess Theatre on Saturday, 15 August 2015, actually was Michael Jackson.  So convincing was he that the bar and corridors of the theatre were filled with thronging theatregoers waiting to talk with him, have their photo taken and obtain signed autographs.  Many of those waiting actually called him Michael by … Continue reading

Anyone Up for a Little Dirty Dancing?

Julian Essex-Spurrier in A Night of Dirty Dancing

One of my brief claims to fame is being close enough to touch Patrick Swayze’s leg as he was poised high in a beautiful horse in the 1987 New York Thanksgiving Parade!  I had no idea at that moment why the hordes of women flanking each side of me were screaming and reaching out until I went to see the movie musical “Dirty Dancing”.  It was immediately clear that these ladies had Dirty Dancing fever. Since that time the music and movie has become a cult chick flick and tribute … Continue reading
