Hunstanton is a popular coastal resort sixteen miles from King's Lynn and approx twelve miles from
Sandringham on the A149 in Norfolk, England.
Hunstanton was built as a Norfolk
seaside resort and gained popularity as early as the 1860s. Today,
Hunstanton retains its Victorian character and remains a popular holiday
location for all ages but particularly families with a wide selection of bed
and breakfast accommodation. This Norfolk town possibly
takes its name from the River Hunn, though it is also said that the name
Hunstanton originated from the word "Honeystone", the name of the local
stone from years gone by. The River begins in the grounds of Old
Hunstanton Park which also houses the grand Old Moated Hall, the Ancestral
home of the Le Strange Family.
Hunstanton achieved Quality Coast Award Status in 2008 and 2009 for its high quality standards. This award is bestowed based on the water quality, provision of rescue equipment during the peak season, beach cleanliness including provision of litter bins, provision of disabled and pram access, well maintained toilets, clearly signed car parks, the enforcement and control of the beach dog ban and widely accessible information points. Continuing this level of quality achievement, Hunstanton has also been awarded a 2010 Blue Flag for its beach.
